FAQ

How much Event Cancellation does a sports organization need?

Expert insurance guidance from Players Health — protecting youth sports and fitness organizations across the country.

The Short Answer

Event cancellation insurance reimburses your organization for non-recoverable expenses when a covered event must be cancelled, postponed, or curtailed due to reasons outside your control — such as severe weather, venue failure, or key person illness.

For tournament organizers and sports events, this coverage protects against the financial loss of deposits, venue fees, vendor contracts, and marketing costs that cannot be recovered if an event is cancelled. Some policies also cover loss of anticipated revenue.

Common covered perils include: adverse weather, venue unavailability, evacuation orders, power outages, and communicable disease (with specific conditions). Excluded perils typically include voluntary cancellation and government-mandated closures unless specifically endorsed.

Players Health offers event cancellation coverage as an add-on for tournament organizers and large event hosts. Coverage should be purchased well before the event date — policies typically require purchase at least 14–30 days prior to the event.
